When is my MCS-150 due?

The last digit of your USDOT number sets the month (1 is January, 0 is October), and the next-to-last digit sets the year: odd digit, odd years; even digit, even years. The update is due every 24 months, and it's free. Source: 49 CFR 390.19T(b), checked Oct 24, 2026.

Paying one doesn't cover the others. OOIDA has warned about companies that send official-looking UCR notices and add a service fee (Land Line (OOIDA)). UCR is paid at ucr.gov, and the MCS-150 update costs nothing.

FMCSA has paused deactivations. File anyway

FMCSA has stopped inactivating USDOT numbers for missed updates due on or after June 1, 2026, while its new Motus system settles in. It hasn't said when that ends. The update is still required: file it in Motus at motus.dot.gov.

"FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement of biennial updates and the inactivation of USDOT Numbers for entities that have not completed the required biennial update."

"Registrants whose biennial update was due on or after June 1, 2026 will receive additional time to complete any required biennial updates and will not have their USDOT Number inactivated for failing to submit a biennial update."

Questions

When is my MCS-150 due?

By the end of the month set by the last digit of your USDOT number (1 is January, 0 is October), every two years: odd years if the next-to-last digit is odd, even years if it's even. A number ending in 82 files in February of even years.

How much does an MCS-150 update cost?

Nothing. The rule's fee table: "Biennial update of registration $0." A company that charges you is charging for its own service.

How do I update my MCS-150 in Motus?

Sign in at motus.dot.gov, FMCSA's registration system since May 2026, and file the biennial update there. If Motus won't let you sign in or won't save: Motus problems.

What happens if I don't update my MCS-150?

The rule allows civil penalties and deactivation of the USDOT number. For now FMCSA has paused deactivations for updates due on or after June 1, 2026, without an end date, and the update is still required.

Is the MCS-150 the same as UCR or the BOC-3?

No. UCR is a yearly fee at ucr.gov, and the BOC-3 names your process agents and is filed once by a process-agent company. The MCS-150 updates your USDOT record every two years.
