Questions

Is COLUMBUS ELD still FMCSA approved?

No. COLUMBUS ELD (ELD ID CMB388) was revoked by FMCSA on Dec 11, 2024. FMCSA's notice says to replace it before Feb 9, 2025; from that date, drivers still using it are put out of service. A revoked or withdrawn device isn't on FMCSA's registered list, and 49 CFR 395.22(a) allows only registered ELDs.

Can I still use COLUMBUS ELD?

No. FMCSA's date for it was Feb 9, 2025. Drivers still using it on or after that date are in violation of 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1), "No record of duty status", and are placed out of service.

Can I run paper logs instead of a revoked ELD?

Only until the device is replaced. FMCSA's notices tell carriers to use paper logs or logging software after a revocation. The 8-day paper-log limit in 49 CFR 395.34 is a different rule, for a registered ELD that breaks down.

Can a revoked ELD be reinstated?

Yes, if the maker fixes the problems: "If the ELD provider corrects all identified deficiencies for their devices, FMCSA will place the ELDs back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry and the field of the update." Until FMCSA's registered list shows it again, treat it as revoked.

What should I replace it with?

Any device on FMCSA's registered list. Registered providers that publish a monthly price start at $5.00 a month: ELD prices.
